John Hamilton is President of StrategEx Capital Management Inc., an investment management business focused on corporate development and finance services. He brings more than 27 years of experience and active involvement with public and private companies and not-for-profit entities in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, strategy design and implementation, restructurings, interim leadership roles and board governance.
John spent the first 15 years of his career in banking where he served as head of a market-leading Corporate Finance team at TD Bank followed by senior roles at CIBC including Corporate Finance Origination, VP Finance, VP Corporate Development and Chief Financial and Restructuring Officer for a bank subsidiary. He has developed lasting business activities, led industry-first transactions for clients and numerous shareholder value enhancement initiatives.
Since 2004, John has been providing his experiences, disciplines and leadership capabilities to a wide range of public and private organizations (corporates, government-related services, private equity investors and not-for-profit sectors) to help maximize stakeholder value. He serves in various leadership and support roles building management teams, enhancing business development for clients, redesigning business processes, structuring outsourcing arrangements, directing successful restructurings and turn-arounds, leading numerous M&A and corporate finance initiatives, participating in private equity placements, advising some of North America’s most successful private equity funds on investment opportunities and driving profitable liquidity events for investors. In addition to leading various corporate development projects, John is often called-on to serve as interim or ongoing CEO, CFO, Director and/or Advisor for various Canadian companies across diversified industries. John is an enthusiastic and innovative leader with strong project management capabilities, a results-orientation and a focus on shareholder value enhancement. John is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors and has been registered with the Ontario Securities Commission.
